Canyon Arada
Canyon Arada means „the long and wide canyon“. |
| |
| |
| |
In the canyon’s rock formations and sands we find all of Sinai’s magnificent colours. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
One of the highlights of this tour are the numerous ancient rock paintings, which still are in very good condition. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
These paintings tell us of the journey through the Holy Land and even of Mecca.
We can clearly see an ancient vessel on its travel on the Nile, and also the domestic pet that the travellers brought along. |

Character of the tour:
We start our tour with a spectacular crossing of the canyon, where we will encounter astonishing views.
Even the trail to and from this gorge is blessed with unbelievable rock formations and –colours.
After the exercise, we have earned ourselves lunch in the shade of a very pretty, but also very steep, sand dune.
Those who wish, can climb it and enjoy the magnificent view over the Sinai peninsula with its mountains and desserts.
The tour starts with a spectacular crossing of the canyon with its unbelievable views and flair.
The bizarre and colourful rock formations along the trail will blow your mind. After the hardship, we have earned ourselves some lunch.
In close proximity to the canyon, there is a very steep sand dune, that gives us shade during our meal.
If anybody is up for another hike at that point – you can also ascent the dune itself, the view is once again mind-blowing!
The next highlight of this tour is a trip (with our Jeep) to some ancient rock paintings, where we enjoy the calmness of the dessert,
before we start our return trip to our base. |

The drive leads through… |
| |
| |
...one of the most various section of the Sinai dessert. |
| |
| |
After about one hour, we arrive at Achmed’s place.
Bevor he accompanies us through the canyon, we are obligated to have common beguine tea which is very sweet and also very hot!
| |
| |
After tea, we start our journey... |
| |
| |
…to the canyon ... |
| |
| |
… which we will reach within only twenty minutes. |
| |
| |
We just can’t stop admiring the weathered rock formations. |
| |
| |
Then we march another 15 minutes to the actual entrance of the canyon. |
| |
| |
This is where it gets exciting: Ahmed is belaying himself with the rope... |
| |
| |
... the other end of the rope is ours. No backing down now! |
| |
| |
The best way to get through this section is to
just slide through this section on your bottom.
You haven’t done that since you were a kid,
right? After this we will continue crawling,
giggling and laughing… |
| |
| |
… to the next part, where we will do some sliding once again. |
| |
| |
Out of wholes in the dead rock, new live is
born in the form long green dessert plants.
We wonder for how long these plants must have been without water. |
| |
| |
Unreal formations of rocks, ... |
| |
| |
... are seen a long every section of the trail. |
| |
| |
A little visit to ... |
| |
| |
… the „dome”. |
| |
| |
The view into the blue sky. |
| |
| |
Here a few impression of the magnificent colours ... |
| |
| |
... of the Sinai ... |
| |
| |
… in the form of rocks ... |
| |
| |
... and natural which have been formed by wind and weather. |
