Catharine’s mountain
1 1/2 day trip

 

 
  This tour can be combined with a tour to St Catharine’s mountain with an altitude of
2642 metres. This is the highest point of the Sinai. This trip requires a bit more
endurance than the hike to Mt. Moses, but it’s worth the effort, as this mountain is considered the top of Egypt.		  
         
    We start our trip in the afternoon with the drive to St. Catharine.  
         
    We hike about one hour to the valley of Arbain, which is the base for the hike to the summit.
We spend the night with Bedouins in a simple
but romantic atmosphere. 		 
         
    The ascent is very steep at some points and leads through an impressive mountain scenery.  
         
    After about two hours we reach a plateau,
which already offers a great view of the surrounding high-mountain-scenery. 		 
         
    After another two hours we reach the summit.  
         
    Here is a small chapel from which, just like from an eagle’s nest, you can overview the whole mountain range.

    The decent leads us back to St. Catharine on
the same way we came from.

This trail is very well worth being walked on twice!
